Comparing acoustic analyses of speech data collected remotely

چکیده

Face-to-face speech data collection has been next to impossible globally due COVID-19 restrictions. To address this problem, simultaneous recordings of three repetitions the cardinal vowels were made using a Zoom H6 Handy Recorder with external microphone (henceforth H6) and compared two alternatives accessible potential participants at home: meeting application Zoom) lossless mobile phone applications (Awesome Voice Recorder, Recorder; henceforth Phone). F0 was tracked accurately by all devices; however, for formant analysis (F1, F2, F3) Phone performed better than Zoom, i.e. more similarly H6, though extraction method (VoiceSauce, Praat) also resulted in differences. In addition, exhibited unexpected drops intensity. The results suggest that format present viable option least some phonetic studies.

Acoustic, Electroglottographic and Paralinguistic Analyses of “Rikimi” in Expressive Speech

“Rikimi” is a “pressed-type” voice quality that appears in Japanese conversational speech for expressing paralinguistic information related to emotional or attitudinal behaviors of the speaker. We conducted acoustic, electroglottographic (EGG) and paralinguistic analyses on speech segments including “rikimi”, extracted from spontaneous dialogue speech data. “Rikimi” may be accompanied by severa...

Collection of Spontaneous Speech for the ATIS Domain and Comparative Analyses of Data Collected at MIT and TI

As part of our development of a spoken language system in the ATIS domain, we have begun a smail-scale effort in collecting spontaneous speech data. Our procedure differs from the one used at 'i~xas Instruments (TI) in many respects, the most important being the reliance on an existing system, rather than a wizard, to participate in data collection. Over the past few months, we have collected o...

Articulatory Speech Re-synthesis: Profiting from Natural Acoustic Speech Data

The quality of static phones (e.g. vowels, fricatives, nasals, laterals) generated by articulatory speech synthesizers has reached a high level in the last years. Our goal is to expand this high quality to dynamic speech, i.e. whole syllables, words, and utterances by re-synthesizing natural acoustic speech data. Re-synthesis means that vocal tract action units or articulatory gestures, describ...
